Boris the Cat

Boris is our Campus Pet and we LOVE him! During the rainy season, Boris does not get to roam the campus as much as he would like! I seem to find him in his favorite spot in the Lobby of our Health Care Center. Greeting visitors and loving the attention!

What a CELEBRATION! 102 is not just a number it is a lifetime. Lillian's birthday party was an amazing party and what a wonderful role model she is for all of us. We are honored to know her. This is our executive chef presenting her with beautiful long stem roses! Amazing day!

This purple flower turned up over the weekend. It is exquisite! So intricate and beautiful. I love the constant surprises of our gardens. I never know what I will see next.

This tree sits on one of our many beautiful garden paths that cover our campus! The red berry's seem so festive as we start to plan for the holidays!

Our History, Our Gardens

This flower box sits at the crossroads of our campus. I have seen pictures of it from our opening day in 1921. We treasure our founding and those guiding principles are reinforced here at Aldersly every day!

Rainy Days

I am often asked "What do your residents do when it rains?" Our beautiful garden courtyard apartments all open to the outside. During the rainy season here in beautiful central San Rafael, we are prepared for rain. We have raincoats, and rain hats and umbrellas. Pretty simple stuff. Being outside every single day keeps you engaged and part of the community. Active , Healthy and Well.

Beautiful Garden Paths

Our Gardens are wonderful! There is always a place to sit and enjoy the beauty. I love walking these paths!

What a View!

Our residents enjoy their meals in our magnificent dining room. The view is spectacular Mt Tam is such a wonderful mountain here in Marin. Everyone loves it and hikes it and just loves to look at it!

Fall Colors

The Japanese Maple Trees are about to turn Fire Engine Red! Yes, we do have fall colors here in San Rafael! It is wonderful to see our gardens change season to season!

Meet Buddha!

We have the most incredible pets here at Aldersly! Buddha comes to work every day! He mostly stays in our Assisted Living Building greeting visitors and keeping residents company, but I have seen him take off on his own exploring! The staff and everyone who meets him just loves him, even Boris! What a special pet he is. Welcome to Aldersly Buddha.

Door to Door Service!

This beautiful state of the art new van will take our residents anywhere they want to go. Our driver is always on time and will get you where you need to go!

Birds of Paradise

This plant is so beautiful. I am amazed that it is blooming again! Our gardens have the most interesting plants! Everywhere you look is wonderful.

Happy Plant

This beautiful Plant greets me every morning! It sits at the front door to my office. It always looks happy! Our gardens are happy and they make our residents happy. I always find our residents sitting in the gardens as I tour our campus.

Dahlia?

Came to work this morning and look what I find in the garden! I think it is a Dahlia, however....Anyway it is beautiful and such a surprise. I guess I never know what will pop up in our mature magnificent gardens! Stop by and see for yourself!

Sweet Rose!

I post a lot of pictures of our garden! We're kind of famous for them! This yellow rose is so sweet! The scent is heavenly...Right outside my office. You really need to stop by for a visit and see for yourself. Call me anytime!

Celebration Plans Underway

We were founded in 1921! Our 90th birthday celebration will take place all next year. So many festivities are being planned. Check back often to see what we have planned......

Giants parade today!

Today our San Francisco Giants will be celebrated with a ticker tape parade down Market Street! So many baseball fans here at Aldersly. We will be watching! Congratulations!

Monday at Aldersly

Today is the first day of November. Our guest apartments are filling up as family and friends make plans to visit Aldersly for the holidays. We are enjoying a beautiful sun shinny day here in wonderful San Rafael. The new Activity calendar is posted and another month full of incredible activities and events! I see the drumming class posted! So much to do here!

Turning leaves

The Japanese Maple tree is starting to turn red! Soon all the leaves will be a bright red. Watching our gardens transform from season to season is fantastic! Have a great day!

The Rose Garden

Flu Shot Clinic today!!

Today in Medical Services we are having our Flu Vaccine Services! Our new Medical Services Director has two of her Nursing Students from University of San Francisco assisting today! What a great community we have here!

This cherub and bird bath is in one of our garden courtyards. So sweet! I love watching the little birds play in the water.

We are located in the beautiful residential neighborhood of Central San Rafael. How lucky are we? Within walking distance is just about everything!

The Little Mermaid sits next to the entrance of our lobby. We are so proud of all things Danish! What a treasure.

Our resident gardeners are fantastic! This garden belongs to Ann. Her garden sits adjacent to the Rose Garden and what a wonderful addition! I always tour her garden when i am showing off our gardens!

The Greenhouse

Our greenhouse is so important to our resident gardeners. Nestled under the shade of two magnificent 90 year old cedar trees, the greenhouse is a wonderful place to spend time!

A Rose

Walking through the rose garden this morning I just had to stop and snap this picture. An Orange Rose!!! It looked so beautiful in the middle of the garden. I do not think that I had ever seen one that color. Have you?

Mt. Tam in the Distance

I was walking with one of our residents up the stairs to her apartment. I turned around...Every time I see this view it takes my breath away. The blue sky and the sleeping lady. Fantastic! How lucky are we?

The Heat Wave is over!

Today will be fantastic in the beautiful residential area of Central San Rafael. The heat wave of the past few days is over and we are back to our normal wonderful temperatures! We are so fortunate that even on the hottest of days....when the clock hits 5:30 and the breeze starts to come over Mt Tamalpais and the sea breeze off the bay.....it always cools down.

Today celebrated our Dining Room with its spectacular view of Mt.Tam! The residents had a fantastic meal of chateaubriand and champagne!

In the Heat of the Summer!

Today is an unusually hot day for August! Our residents stay cool with cooling stations set up all over campus! Remember to stay hydrated and out of the heat today!

Boris the Cat..Our Community's Pet

Boris the Cat lives on our campus and is much adored by everyone in the community. Now, let me tell you his story as to how he became Aldersly Community’s pet …
Boris belonged to a wonderful neighboring family. Here and there Boris would come and visit to give a friendly hello to all of our residents. Early in the morning Boris would come in, walk up and down from building to building admiring the beautiful campus. Before the day came to an end Boris would make his way back home to his family.
Boris’ former family decided to move to San Anselmo and take Boris with them as well. The day came, Boris and his family made their way to a new location for a fresh start. Days passed without Boris and his usual visit to campus and greeting to the residents. Until one day, a familiar meow was heard. To our surprise, Boris had found his way back from San Anselmo and had arrived to his familiar campus where his other family greatly missed him. As excited as we were at Aldersly to see the familiar sight of Boris on campus again, we had to notify his family back in San Anselmo that Boris had found his way back to Aldersly. Boris’ family came in to campus in a split of a second to pick him up and take him back to San Anselmo. Another set of days went by, and once again the residents began to miss the presence of our friendly cat. Now, one early morning, as residents made their way to breakfast, a recognizable figure could be seen by the community’s entrance. The residents were amazed to learn Boris had made his way back once again, on his own, from San Anselmo to the Aldersly community in San Rafael. Boris’ family realized Aldersly was where Boris wanted to be and decided to give him an early retirement letting him stay at Aldersly. Since then, the Aldersly Community adopted Boris as the campus pet. Boris knew since the very first day, Aldersly was the place where he wanted to retire, but most important, it is where he feels at home the most.
